Woodbine apartment complex destroyed Wednesday by blaze

Everyone got out safely, but an apartment building on Ky. 6 in Woodbine was destroyed by fire Wednesday afternoon.
Woodbine Firefighters were called to the six-unit building, located next to Friendly Market just across the railroad tracks from Ky. 26, about 1 p.m. When firefighters arrived, smoked was pouring from the second story on the building. When the first Woodbine firefighters arrived on scene, they immediately requested Oak Grove Firefighters come to the scene for mutual aid.
Firefighters set up one line on a flat roof beside the building to hit the fire coming out of several second-story windows while others got inside through one of the four first-floor apartments.
However, by 1:30 flames could be seen shooting out the windows and roof and aluminum siding was beginning to melt and fall off the building.
Woodbine Fire Chief Rick Fore, who was directing firefighters¹ efforts, ordered them to evacuate the building and within seconds, firefighters working to provide water from the pumpers and tankers were blaring the horns, signaling the firefighters inside to evacuate.
With the fire burning through the roof Woodbine’s 100-foot ladder truck was brought in to get water above the fire.
Despite firefighters’ efforts, the building was destroyed and the remains were being demolished Wednesday night.
Residents are saying the fire was caused by a faulty heaters. Fire officials contend it is too early what caused the blaze and say it is under investigation.
