Woman hit by car on Master Street now in stable condition
A Corbin woman who was hit by a car while trying to cross Master Street Friday afternoon remains in stable condition at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
Corbin Police Lieutenant Glenn Taylor said 57-year-old Theresa Dugger suffered some broken bones but she is alert and speaking to hospital personnel.
Dugger was airlifted from Rotary Park following the incident that took place about 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of Master Street and Ford Ave.
“Dugger said she didn’t see the car coming and she stepped out in front of it,” Taylor said, noting that the woman is known throughout the community because she is seen walking a lot and was likely headed back to her residence on Roy Kidd Ave.
The impact was severe enough to shatter part of the windshield of the Infiniti I30 that was travelling west on Master Street.
Dugger was conscious and speaking to Knox County EMS personnel and Corbin firefighters, although she suffered injuries to her head and legs.
She was taken by ambulance to Corbin Rotary Park and then airlifted to U.T. Medical Center.
Traffic west on Master Street was shut down for more than 30 minutes as emergency personnel worked to clear the scene.
Taylor said neither drugs nor alcohol were factors in the collision.
