Williamsburg woman arrested for kicking six-year-old, another family member
A Williamsburg woman is behind bars after allegedly kicking her 6-year-old child and an adult family member.
Williamsburg Public Affairs Officer Shawn Jackson charged Latosha Batchler Watson, 29, of 430 Mt. Morgan Road, with second-degree criminal abuse, fourth-degree assault/domestic violence, alcohol intoxication and resisting arrest.
Police went to the home Friday in regards to a disturbance call made to 911 and determined through the investigation that Watson had been at her residence drinking and became irate with her two young children and an adult family member, according to a press release.
"According to witnesses and evidence at the scene, it was determined that Mrs. Watson had assaulted her 6-year-old child by kicking her and also had assaulted an adult relative, who was trying to protect the child," according to the release.
"It was also determined that Mrs. Watson had fled on foot prior to officers arriving."
Jackson said he and another officer initially walked around trying to find Watson, and that he discovered her on his second trip around the property near one of two outbuildings.
"She was actually laying face down behind one of the outbuildings there. She was hiding in a location that was concealed pretty good," he said. "After being on scene for about seven or eight minutes or so, I did find her."
"She had a very strong smell of alcoholic beverage about her person. She had slurred speech, was unsteady on her feet and stated she had been drinking a few beers," Jackson said. "We did a portable breath test on her and she was well over the legal limit of 0.08."
Social services placed the children with a family member pending the outcome of the case, according to the release.
Jackson said that none of the injuries required medical attention.
He said that the assault on the adult relative stemmed from a push and a shove. The child was kicked in the leg, but didn’t have to have medical attention.
"There was some redness and red marks. It looked like possibly there might be some bruising because of it," Jackson said.
Jackson is continuing the investigation and was assisted by Chief Wayne Bird, Assistant Chief Rick Mosley, K-9 Officer Brandon Prewitt and Officer Brandon White.
Watson was lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.
