Williamsburg school wins $500 in FAFSA challenge
Williamsburg Independent School in Whitley County was one of eight Kentucky high schools rewarded $500 by the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) for participating in the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Completion Challenge.
KHEAA encouraged students to quickly fill out their FAFSA forms by offering a prize to public or private Kentucky high schools.
Filing a FAFSA form is necessary for students to determine if they qualify for federal and state student aid.
KHEAA administers the Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES), need-based grants, and other programs to assist students in paying for their higher education expenses.
Williamsburg Independent School was recognized for having the highest year-over-year increase within a small public school.
KHEAA reported a 5.6 percent increase in the Class of 2023’s FAFSA completion rate, ranking it in the top 10 year-over-year increases in the country.
“Williamsburg City School appreciates the time that Trase Sutton, College Success Coach, has put in to help students prepare for life after graduation. Trace worked with students and families to complete the FAFSA throughout the school year,” Tim Melton, Superintendent, says.
