Williamsburg police looking for man connected to car theft at Pilot
The Williamsburg Police Department is looking for this unknown white male in connection with a vehicle theft that occurred about 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1 at the Pilot Travel Center in Williamsburg.
Authorities said the man stole a Chevy Astro van, while the owner went inside the store to pay for gas, and then proceeded south onto US25W and then onto Ky. 1804 where Constable Jim Thornton took up pursuit.
The pursuit last about seven minutes and ended when the man lost control of the vehicle in a curvy section of Doc Siler Road and crashed through about 100 feet of barb wire fence. The vehicle travelled about 100 feet off the roadway and into a ditch.
The suspect then fled on foot. Authorities chased the suspect and brought in two search dogs, but were unable to find the suspect.
Police are still searching the suspect described as a white male probably in his 20’s, who was last seen wearing a t’shirt, ball cap and denum shorts.
The steering wheel of the minivan was deformed when police discovered the vehicle and they suspect that the man may have been injured during the crash.
