Williamsburg man arrested for stealing Shop-With-A-Cop donation jar

Whitley County Sheriff’s deputies apprehended a Williamsburg man Sunday, who allegedly stole a donation jar intended to benefit the Shop with a Cop program.

Sgt. Brian Lawson and Deputy Joe Prewitt responded to a call about a theft at the Express Station, which is located off Exit 15.
When they arrived, the two deputies determined that two suspects left the station in a reckless manner nearly causing several crashes, Sheriff Colan Harrell said in a press release.

Lawson and Prewitt stopped the vehicle driven by Cody Mullis, 23, of Williamsburg, on Davenport Lane.

Prewitt charged Mullis with first-degree wanton endangerment and operating on a suspended or revoked operator’s license.

Police say that his passenger, David Humphrey, 19, of Williamsburg, went into the store to purchase a pack of cigarettes, and when he left the station, he grabbed a donation jar for Shop with a Cop and fled the scene.

Police charged Humphrey with theft by unlawful taking under $500 and public intoxication.

Both Humphrey and Mullis were lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.
