Williamsburg man arrested for growing pot plants on back deck
A Williamsburg man is facing marijuana cultivation charges after police found six plants growing in a bucket on his back deck Wednesday afternoon.
Police charged Danny Whitehead with cultivating marijuana five plants or more, which is a class ‘D’ felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
On Wednesday, Williamsburg Police Chief Wayne Bird received information about an illegal marijuana growing operation at 219 Wagon Wheel Road.
"Upon arrival, officers discovered in plain view six marijuana plants growing in a bucket on the back deck," Bird said.
At full maturity, the plants are worth about $2,000 each. Three of the plants were nearly fully matured and had started to bud, Bird said.
Whitehead was arrested without incident, and lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center. He has since been released on bond.
Other officers assisting at the scene included Detective Bobby Freeman and Officer Brandon White.
