Williamsburg falls to South London
The South London All-Stars knocked off Williamsburg Friday in the losers’ bracket of the District Four Tournament in Hazard, 16-9.
An eight-run fourth inning for the London boys proved to be the difference in the game.
South London scored three runs in the top of the first as Timmy Garland, Zack Storm and Alex Thompson opened the game with consecutive singles.
Hits by Hunter Jervis, Chase Smith and Mackenzie Hicks pushed the three runs across the plate as South London took a 3-0 lead.
However, Williamsburg provided their own fireworks in the bottom of the inning, knocking Storm off the mound.
J. P. Payne opened with a single off Zack Storm and C.J. Jones followed with a walk. Boston Bryant’s hit up the middle drove in Payne. Cody Perkins picked up an RBI single before Storm struck out Chris Lowery.

With the bases still full, Jalen Dobson hit into a fielder’s choice at short. A play was made on Abner coming to the plate for the second out of the inning. Payne also hit into a fielder’s choice as Williamsburg went into the second inning with a 4-3 lead.
South London struck for two runs in the top of the second. Jones got Zack Duncum and Garland to pop out but Storm hit a double then scored on a throwing error. South London tied the game at 3-3.
Williamsburg missed on an opportunity to score in the bottom of the second when Bryant hit a single down the third base line. He went to second on a walk to Perkins but was thrown out going to third when Abner hit the ball back to the mound.
South London picked up the go ahead run in the top of the third on a Hicks one-out double. Hicks went to third on a passed ball then scored on another passed ball by catcher Cody Perkins.
The bottom of the inning saw the Williamsburg Little Leaguers come back to tie the game 5-5. Williams led off the inning with a single to leftfield. However, McFarland hit into a fielder’s choice as Williams was cut down going to second.
Bowling pushed in the tying run with a double to left center field.
South London broke the game open in the top of the fourth as 12 players went to the plate and eight crossed the plate for a 13-5 lead. Storm and Thompson had back to back doubles in the inning and both players scored four of the eight runs.
Williamsburg refused to quit and scored three runs in the bottom of the inning as Bryant led the inning off with a single. Perkins hit into an error and Lowery walked to load the bases. A two-run RBI by Abner closed the gap to 15-8. Lowery would later scored in the inning, slicing the lead to seven runs.
