Williamsburg couple arrested for staging fake burglary
A Williamsburg couple is free on bond after allegedly falsely reporting that their flat screen television was taken during a staged burglary, according to a press release by Williamsburg Police Chief Wayne Bird.
On Sept. 13, Officer Brandon White charged both Mark Moses, 48, and his wife, Elizabeth Ann Moses, 40, both of 308 North Third Street, with theft by failure to make required disposition of property and falsely reporting an incident.
On Sept. 12, Williamsburg police received a call from a North Third Street residence from Mark Moses reporting the burglary of a 47" flat screen television and a microwave, according to arrest warrants.
At 2:51 p.m. the next day, White listened to a phone conversation between Mike Mills and Mark Moses where Mark Moses advised and directed him to give false statements to police, according to an arrest warrant.
Mark Moses also told Mills over the phone that he did not need to worry about the television because it was out of state. Elizabeth Moses is also heard telling Mills that he needed to talk to Mark Moses so the two could get their stories straight, according to an arrest warrant.
Mark Moses had rented the television from Aaron’s Rental in Corbin, and was two months behind on payments for the television owing $741.10 to Aarons, according to an arrest warrant.
"When Moses was confronted with the information Officer White had received, Moses admitted to the false report and stated he just needed the money," Bird wrote on the press release.
Both suspects were lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center, but have since been released on surety bonds.
