William G. Cooper
William G. Cooper, 97, of Williamsburg, passed away Wednesday August 31, 2016 at the Williamsburg Health and Rehabilitation Center in Williamsburg.
He was born February 2, 1919 in Whitley County, to the late Charlie Cooper and the late Sarah Nan Lawson Cooper.
William served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was an educator in Whitley County for over 44 years. He was a member of the Gatliff Baptist Church where he served as Sunday school teacher and clerk. William was a lifetime member of the DAV Chapter 90, he was a Kentucky Colonel, and a member of the Williamsburg Masonic Lodge #490.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Iva Cooper, a grandson Jeremy Cooper, two brothers, Walter Cooper, Clyde Cooper, and sister Naomi Kerr.
He is survived by daughter Ruth Ann Potter of Williamsburg; two sons, John Cooper (Vicki) of Williamsburg, Michael Cooper (Teresa) of Williamsburg; six grandchildren Leanna Cooper, Sarah Lawson, Rachel Fuston, Brian Lawson, Hollie Lawson and Emily Lawson, nine great grandchildren Colton Lawson, Abbigail Lawson, Emma Lawson, Katelyn Fuston, Skyla Fuston, Rayna Fuston, Darren Fuston, Alivia Cureton and Emily Cooper, two sisters Eula Lawson of Williamsburg, KY, Argene Beasley of Blanchester, OH; brother J.L. Cooper of Williamsburg, KY, special friends Rick and Eula Croley, several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services were held Saturday September 3, at Ellison Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rick Croley officiating.
Following the service he was laid to rest in the Cooper Family Cemetery at Packard.
