Wildcat Harley hosting, ‘The Moving Wall’ Vietnam memorial

The moving wall is coming to Laurel County.

Wildcat Harley–Davidson in London will host the 3/5 scale replica of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C. Thursday through Monday

At its highest point, the replica is six feet tall and contains the names of the 58,318 military personnel who lost their lives while serving in Vietnam between 1957 and 1975.

It was the creation of John Devitt, Norris Shears, Gerry Haver and other Vietnam veterans, going on display for the first time in Tyler Texas, in 1984.

There are now two separate moving walls that tour the country between April and November with the goal of allowing veterans and family and friends of those who died, who may not be able to make the trip to Washington, to experience the healing the wall has been said to provide.

Setup of the wall will begin at approximately 8 a.m. Thursday.

Volunteers will be on hand daily from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. to help visitors find names they are searching for as the names are in chronological order based on the date of the individual’s death.

The wall will be open to visitors 24 hour per day during its time in London.
