Whitley takes JC
Junior Travis Roaden stole the ball from Jackson County’s Troy Tuett in the final seconds and went in for a lay-up to enable the Whitley County Colonels to escape McKee with a 86-85 triple overtime win.
The Colonels, who broke a three-game losing srteak, trailed by as many as 10 points in the second half before going on a 16-4 to send the game into its first overtime.
The teams went to the first overtime tied at 56-56. In the first extra period Whitley County moved out to a 62-57 lead with 1:53 left on a pair of Sammy Wilson free throws.
However, Jackson County refused to quit as freshman Nick Brumback connected on a three-point play to close the gap to two. Wilson again put the Colonels ahead 64-60 with a pair of free throws.
Jackson County fought back and had a chance to win the game with 1.8 seconds left when Nathan Parrett was fouled on a three point attempt. He hit the first but missed the second, then sent the game into overtime number two with the third attempt.
In overtime number two the Colonels took a 72-69 lead on a Travis Raper free throw with 1:20 left but the Generals scored the next five points for a 74-72 lead. This time it was Raper hitting a pair of free throws with 7.9 seconds to send the game into the third OT.
The Colonels fell behind by five points in the third OT, 81-76 then battled their way back for the win as Raper hit five of six free throws down the stretch.
Roaden also hit a free throw that tied the game at 84-84. Johnson hit one of two from the line to put Jackson ahead, 85-84 with :28 left.
Raper, who hit 14 free throws in the three overtime periods, led the Colonels with 22 points. Jeremy Taylor finished with 20 points.
