Whitley Sweeps Jackets
The Corbin Redhounds fell under the .500 mark at 2-3 on the season in a road loss to the North Laurel Jaguars Tuesday night, losing 78-71.
The Redhounds stayed right on the heels of the Jaguars in the first quarter and led 16-13 before a North Laurel run put the Jaguars ahead for good.
An 6-1 run in the final two minutes of the first quarter allowed the Jaguars to take a 21-17 lead at the first stop.
Senior Josh Asher was a big part of the Jaguars run as the senior forward came off the bench to score 10 first quarter points.
North Laurel (1-4) built a 29-17 lead with 6:27 left in the second period to gain their largest margin of the first half. Senior Michael Robinson, who had been held under double figures in the first four games, unloaded a three pointer that pushed the Jaguars ahead, 29-17.
Robinson, the team’s leading scorer, last season hit five three pointers in the win and led his team with 28 points.
North Laurel led at the half 27-33 but pushed the lead out to 14 points late in the third quarter, 53-39.
But that was also about the time the Redhounds became to comeback. Corbin mounted a rally that saw the Redhounds pull within four (69-65) on a basket by Andrew Parks.
Corbin, led by Noble’s 24 points and Parks’ 20 points outscored the Jaguars 21-12 to get within the four points.
The Jaguars were able to hit their free throws down the line. North Laurel connected on 18 of 23 for the game while Corbin hit 22 of 33 from the line.
Corbin will be off until Saturday night when they play in the Great Florida Shootout in Kissimmee, Florida Tournament.
The Redhounds will take on the St. Cloud Bulldogs in the first-round. The Bulldogs are led by 6-4 senior James Adcock who averages 17 points, nine rebounds a game.
