Whitley rolls
Call them the three Musketeer’s. Travis Raper, Jeremy Taylor and Sammy Wilson combined for 56 points to lead the Whitley County Colonels to a 69-54 win over the McCreary Central Raiders at WCHS Tuesday night.
“We started out a little slow but once we got things kicking and going we played much better,” said Whitley County coach Darrell Guffey.
“A lot of things went through Jeremy Taylor and Sammy Wilson, when those two guys get things going we play better,” added Guffey.
“Sammy made shots tonight, Jeremy made shots tonight. When those two make shots, we’re pretty good.”
Wilson led the Colonels with 21 points, including five beyond the arc. Taylor added 19 points, most of which came from the paint.
“Raper is the magic man, he is always there. He shows up like Superman, every once in a while he will show up and save us,” said Guffey. “He does some good stuff.”
The Colonels blistered the nets against the Raiders, hitting 26 of 43 for 60 percent from the field.
“They set back in a 2-3 zone and made us hit some shots and we did tonight,” Guffey said. “When our kids are coming in hitting we can shoot it, but when the kids don’t shoot it, we don’t play very well.”
The Colonels will be at home Friday night to take on the Corbin Redhounds.
