Whitley man sought by police for attempted murder
Carl Wayne Scalf is wanted in Whitley County on charges attempted murder and wanton endangerment.
According to Sheriff Colan Harrell, Deputy John Hill secured the warrants following an investigation into an incident in the Oak Grove Community on June 2 in which Scalf, 47, allegedly fired multiple shots at Henderson Leon Day and then chased after him in his car and tried to run him off the road.
The incident allegedly began about 9:50 p.m. when Day, a Corbin resident, went to his ex-wife’s residence on Oak Grover School Road to visit his grandchildren.
Harrell stated that Scalf, the woman’s new boyfriend, told him to leave.
As Day returned to his vehicle, Scalf allegedly fired five shots at Day, hitting the front windshield, hood and driver’s side off of hit vehicle.
"According to the victim, there was not argument between them," Harrell said. "Scalf came in and told him to leave. Day was accommodating him and as he was leaving the shots started flying.
Day had gone to the residence multiple times in the past to see the grandchildren without incident," Harrell added.
Harrell said based on the lack of shell casings when deputies went out to the scene to investigate, the gun was likely a revolver. However, the caliber of the weapon is still unknown.
Day fled the scene, but Scalf allegedly gave chase in his vehicle, catching up and hitting Day’s vehicle multiple times.
When the two men reached Corbin, Harrell stated that Day pulled into an area parking lot, while Scalf continued on.
Deputies returned to the residence as part of the investigation but have been unable to locate Scalf.
Hill has secured arrest warrants for Scalf on two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and one count of attempted murder. He is expected to present the case to a Whitley County Grand Jury in July
Scalf is described as a white male, 6’4" tall, approximately 195 pounds with brown eyes and brown hair.
Anyone with information about Scalf’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department, 549-6006.

It’s been that way for thousands of years…people not caring. I bet that Scalf dude is related to Larry Scalf…..they’re all a bunch of losers. I still own property in Whitley Co. but I’d never live there again even though Colan Harrell is an outstanding Sheriff. It will take him a long time to straighten out the mess Lawrence Hodge left behind. Hodge is responsible for most of what’s wrong with Whitley Co. He let the dope dealers and crooked cops (and the dope dealing volunteer firefighters) get away with everything. OH YEA!!! You’d be surprised at who all sold and did dope when Hodge was in office…and all the while they were cops and firefighters, carrying guns and driving firetrucks when they were high…I even know of one firefighter that did an insurance job for his g/f, he set her trailer on fire…most people wouldn’t be able to fathom what all went on when Hodge was Sheriff. And i’m not talking $hit either, i was married to that firefighter so I know the truth. I won’t say his name but the initials are D.V.
People don’t care about their fellow man anymore, in fact mankind has been trying kill each other off for years. This Scalf guy is a menace to society and will more than likely go to prison for acting stupid for 20 minutes or more.
