Whitley man airlifted to UT Medical Center after shooting self in leg
Air Evac Lifeteam flew a Whitley County man to the University of Tennessee Medical Center following a shooting early Thursday morning.
Whitley County Sheriff’s Capt. Todd Shelley said that Brian Sulfridge, 25, of 612 Leonard Petrey Road, was shot one time in the right calf with a .20 gauge shotgun.
"He stated to me that he was out back target practicing," Shelley said. "He shot once, then put another round into a single shot .20 gauge shotgun. When he loaded it back up, he was shot in his right inside calf."
The shooting took place about 9:10 a.m.
Whitley County EMS treated Sulfridge at the scene. The sheriff’s department and members of Three-Point Volunteer Fire
Department set up an emergency landing zone in a field near C&P Meats where Air Evac landed.
Shelley said that no foul play was suspected.
Deputy E.J. Miller also assisted at the scene.
