Whitley deputies searching for man who attempted to rob Dollar General Store
Whitley County Sheriff’s deputies are asking for the public’s help to locate the man who attempted to rob the Dollar General Store on Cumberland Falls Highway Sunday night.
According to Sheriff Colan Harrell the man came into the store at the intersection of Falls Highway and Fifth Street Road just outside the Corbin city limits about 9:45 p.m.
The man reportedly came up to the register to pay for a package of chocolate covered raisins and when the female cashier opened the cash register, he instructed her to give him all of the cash or else he would hurt her.
“He just made the threat,” Harrell said when asked if the robber produced any type of weapon.
Harrell said the cashier was able to alert her manager about the robbery. As a result, the robber became spooked and fled the scene before he received any cash.
Harrell said the man was last seen running toward Corinth Cemetery Road.
Deputy Jonas Saunders responded to the 911 call but was unable to locate the robber.
The suspect is described as a white male, approximately six feet tall, and believed to be at least 40-years-old.
The suspect has a beard and was wearing a camouflage jacket and hat along with jean and tennis shoes that were black and white.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Whitley County E911 at (606) 549-6017.
Deputy Saunders is continuing the investigation. He was assisted at the scene by Kentucky State Police Trooper Matt Ridener.
