Whitley deputies find Woodbine man with needle full of meth

Whitley County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Sammy Harrell on Oct. 1 on drug-related charges.

A Woodbine man was arrested on drug related charges after deputies reported finding a needle loaded with methamphetamine on his person Saturday.

According to Whitley County Sheriff Colan Harrell, Deputy Brian Hensley arrested 43-year-old Sammy D. Harrell outside a wooded area on Back Street off of Radio Tower Road.

Harrell stated that Hensley was on routine patrol in the area when he noticed a male subject, later identified as Sammy Harrell, coming out of the woods with a shovel and a rake.

“Deputy Hensley made contact with (Harrell) and could tell that he was under the influence of an intoxicating substance,” Sheriff Harrell stated. “While Deputy Hensley was talking to Mr. Harrell, he noticed a needle sticking out from underneath his hat that had a liquid substance in it.”

Sheriff Harrell stated that when Hensley questioned Sammy Harrell about the needle, he admitted that it contained methamphetamine.

When Hensley requested information from Whitley County dispatchers concerning outstanding warrants on Sammy Harrell, he was informed that Harrell had a warrant in Whitley County for first-degree possession of a controlled substance – second offense – methamphetamine.

Sammy Harrell was charged with public intoxication, first-degree possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. In addition, he was served with the warrant.

Sammy Harrell is being held in the Whitley County Detention Center on a $25,000 cash bond.
