WCHS Teacher honored with Favorite Teacher Award

A Whitley County High School Teacher has been honored with the Favorite Teacher Award from Barnes and Noble.
Mr. David Sweet was nominated for the award by 10th grader, Katherine Whitaker, a student in his Theatre II class.  Whitaker’s heartfelt letter that she wrote nominating him won first place out of all of the entries received from Southern Ohio, Tennessee and Kentucky.

The nomination was written as a thank you letter and details Whitaker’s appreciation for all that David does to make the high school a better place.

Whitaker wrote, “…you do so much more than teach drama and dedicate time to countless other clubs and organizations, including announcing football games and managing our radio station.  You are truly a man of many talents, all of which are used to better our school’s outreach.  Despite having a family of your own to care for and other obligations, you have never turned down someone who needed help and I admire that about you.” She further discusses his contributions to the arts programs in the community and the guidance and encouragement he shares with his students.

The nomination will go on to be considered at the regional level and can be forwarded for consideration at the national level which awards $5,000.

Mr. David Sweet and his wife Lisa live in Williamsburg and have two children, Ethan and Erinn.

Katherine Whitaker also resides in Williamsburg and is the daughter of Dean and Jane Whitaker.
