Whitley County Fair bringing family fun July 13-16
This year’s Whitley County Fair will be taking place from Wed., July 13 through Sat., July 16, and Fair Board President Randy Meadors is excited to be bringing back many fan-favorite events for 2022.
“We are offering free admission on Wednesday night,” Meadors said. “There will be a free concert featuring Will Snyder and the band Three Years Apart, and people will have a chance to scope out the fairgrounds while they’re here.”
Also Wednesday, there will be inflatables set up for children, and a dunking booth where some local officials have agreed to take the plunge in order to help raise funds for this year’s Kayaking for Kids event on Aug. 6.
A cornhole tournament and classic tractor displays have also been scheduled for the opening night of the fair.
On Thursday, Meadors said the demolition derby will be returning to the fairgrounds with a tentative start time of 7 p.m. “Last year’s derby was great, and this year’s should be even better,” he said.
This will be the second year for the derby, which drew over 600 spectators in 2021.
On Friday, the always popular horse show will take place, and on Saturday, someone will be awarded $2000 in prize money at the conclusion of this year’s mud bog.
The mud bog features four-wheelers and four-wheel drive trucks sloshing through mud-filled pits to see who cango the fastest, or at least the furthest, in the competition.
“The mud bog is always a monstrous deal,” Meadors explained. “Everyone loves to come out and watch people play in the mud.”
Meadors and other fair organizers are encouraging local residents to come out and watch, or better yet, take part in many of these events.
Gates will open each night of the fair at 5 p.m., with admission being $10 per person on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Children under ten will be admitted free.
