Whitley County Clerk’s Office closing for all but two days next week
If you need to pay your car taxes, get a marriage license, register a deed or any number of other things at the Whitley County Clerk’s Office before the end of the calendar year, then you might want to hurry down there.
Whitley County Clerk Kay Schwartz warns that her office will only be open on Wednesday and Thursday of next week (Dec. 27 – 28) due to reasons beyond her control.
Dec. 25 and 26 (Monday and Tuesday) are state holidays and the state computers that the clerk’s office needs to do most of its jobs are shut down those days.
On Dec. 29 – Jan. 1, Schwartz said that the state computers will be shut down again, as the state downloads a new software system statewide, new tax rates for all the counties and values for motor vehicles.
“The public will only have the 27th and 28th next week to do whatever business they need to before the end of the year,” Schwartz said.
The clerk’s office will reopen on Jan. 2, but Schwartz noted that the public might want to wait until Jan. 3 to come to her office to conduct business if possible.
While her office has been training on the new state computer system, there are still bound to be glitches during the first day of use, which could cause delays, Schwartz added.
The office will be open for business as usual Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week.
