WCMS Odyssey of the Mind Team headed to World Finals
The Whitley County Middle School Odyssey of the Mind Team (OM™) is headed to the Odyssey of the Mind (OM™) World Finals at Iowa State University in May.
The team placed third in its division during the Odyssey of the Mind (OM™) State Tournament, which was held Saturday, March 26, at Thomas Nelson High School.
Their third place finish captured them a spot to represent their school and the district at the world finals.
Team members team include: Journey Chitwood, Rachel Baker, Kambree Bunch, Marcus Helton, Miles Leskiw and Grace-Anne Richardson. The team is sponsored by Angie Wilson and Ruth Osborne.
“Odyssey of the Mind teaches students how to develop and use their natural creativity to become problem-solvers,” Odyssey of the Mind (OM™) writes on its website. “OM brings the classroom to life as students apply what they learn and combine it with their interests and passions to solve our unique open-ended problems. OM also emphasizes teamwork, budgeting, time management, public speaking, and so much more. This international program is designed to help students at all learning levels grow as individual learners, grow as team members, and to reach their full potential.”
Whitley County’s Division Two team solved “Problem #3 – Classics.”
“Imagine turning the story of Pandora’s Box into a video game or creating an original Lost Labor of Heracles! In our Classics problem teams write and perform original theatrical performances based on a work from classical literature, artwork, music, culture, or history. Subjects range from bringing the past to life to revisiting and rewriting history, all while OMers learn about world history. Solutions often reflect upon the majesty and sophistication of humanity’s most impactful and enduring creations,” Odyssey of the Mind (OM™) writes on its website describing the problem.
