W’burg man leaves employee ID behind at scene of car break-in

A Williamsburg man was caught in the act of stealing items from a vehicle parked in the Tri-County Cineplex parking lot and confronted by the owner of the vehicle.

Michael Cook, 28, allegedly stole items from multiple vehicles in Corbin last Friday night.

Cook was arrested at 10:15 p.m. last Friday on charges of alcohol intoxication in a public place and theft by unlawful taking or disposition of contents from vehicle of $500 or more but under $10,000.

The suspect was confronted by the victim during the act and returned the items taken. The suspect fled the scene when advised that the police had been contacted.

“The suspect had an Applebee’s employee ID card on his key ring that was left at the scene when he fled,” Officer Justin Walker of the Corbin Police Department wrote in his report.

Applebee’s management informed police that the suspect had returned to the restaurant following the incident.

Police were able to provide a description of the suspect to Applebee’s management who identified the suspect as Cook.

Cook was transported back to the scene and was identified by the victim as well.

“Cook gave the exact location of the items that were found and admitted to taking them throughout the night,” Walker stated.

Cook is being held on a $1,000 cash bond.
