W’burg man flown out after late Friday afternoon crash

A Williamsburg man had to be flown out by emergency medical helicopter following a single vehicle crash late Friday afternoon.

Shortly before 5 p.m., Luster B. Williford, 65, of Long Bottom Road, was traveling east on Highway 204 in a four-door gray Ford car when he left the roadway for an unknown reason about one mile from Red Bird Bridge.

Williford dropped off the shoulder of the road where he traveled for about 250 feet before striking a culvert and coming to rest in a ditch line.

Members of Woodbine and Oak Grove volunteer fire departments had to help Williford from the vehicle.

EMT’s from two Whitley County EMS ambulances treated Williford at the scene for multiple injuries including head injuries.

Firefighters set up an emergency landing zone at Red Bird Bridge and Williford was flown out by emergency medical helicopter for additional treatment.

Williford was reportedly wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputy Joe Prewitt investigated the crash and was assisted at the scene by Sgt. Dave Lennon and court security officer Greg Rhodes.
