W’burg man facing robbery-related charge

A Williamsburg man who allegedly hit an Ollie’s employee with a car as the employee was attempting to apprehend suspected shoplifters Thursday afternoon, has been charged with facilitation to commit first-degree robbery.

Corbin Police arrested Brent A. Stevens following the incident outside the store on U.S. 25E.

Officer Estes Rhodes stated in the arrest citation that police were called to the scene in response to a complaint of a shoplifter at approximately 2:15 p.m.

A male subject, whom employees identified as James Shelby had reportedly fled the store with $525.62 worth of merchandise and loaded it into Stevens’ Pontiac G6.

The employees reportedly told police that Stevens was waiting in the vehicle.

“Employees reported that Shelby told (Stevens) to start driving,” Rhodes stated noting the Stevens reportedly put the vehicle into reverse and backed into an employee.

Stevens stopped the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., Rhodes located Stevens walking on foot near Hog Snot Pawn shop on Campground Road off of U.S. 25 in Corbin.

Stevens was arrested without incident and lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
