W’burg man charged with custodial interference

George Meadors was arrested on Oct. 3 and charged with unlawful transaction with a minor and custodial interference.

A Williamsburg man is behind bars after being arrested Monday afternoon for custodial interference and unlawful transaction with a minor.

About 1:45 p.m., Williamsburg police received call in reference to a wanted man and a missing juvenile, who were traveling north on US25W heading into Williamsburg.

Chief Wayne Bird and Deputy Chief Jason Caddell observed a 2003 black PT Cruiser traveling north on US25W that matched the description that was given by the caller and conducted a traffic stop, according to a release.

Bird arrested George A. Meadors, 48, without incident on three outstanding Whitley County warrants.

One of the warrants was for unlawful transaction with a minor and the other two warrants were each for felony custodial interference, according to the Whitley County Detention Center’s website.

During Meadors arraignment Thursday afternoon, Whitley District Judge Cathy Prewitt noted that there should only have been one custodial interference charge, which stemmed from a circuit court indictment, and she dismissed the other custodial interference charge.

Prewitt entered a not guilty plea for Meadors on the charge of unlawful transaction with a minor, and scheduled an Oct. 26 pre-trial conference in that case.

Meadors is being held at the detention center in lieu of a $10,000 cash bond.

The juvenile was taken into police custody, interviewed by police and social services, and later released to family members, according to the police department release.
