W’burg man arrested on meth charges after incident at Brush Arbor Apartments
Williamsburg police seized a substance believed to be methamphetamine and a syringe following an incident Tuesday evening at Brush Arbor Apartments.
Williamsburg K-9 Officer Brandon Prewitt charged Jason Dewayne Brown, 36, of 1207 Briar Creek Road, with first-degree possession of a controlled substance and use/possession of drug paraphernalia.
The incident happened about 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 17 near Brush Arbor Road.
Prewitt and his K-9 partner, Rico, were patrolling when Prewitt observed a subject acting suspiciously, according to a press release and court documents.
After allegedly spotting Prewitt, Brown pulled into a parking spot and walked to his residence, according to the arrest citation.
While searching the exterior of the 1994 Geo, Rico alerted to the possible presence of drugs inside the vehicle and led
Prewitt from the driver’s side door to a bench on the sidewalk where Prewitt had observed Brown, according to the arrest citation.
"I found a small baggie with white powder believed to be meth and a syringe. Inside the vehicle was a bottle lid with white residue inside," Prewitt wrote on the citation.
Brown was arrested without incident and lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.
He pleaded not guilty during his arraignment Thursday before District Judge Jason Price.
Price agreed to amend his bond conditions from a $7,500 cash bond to a $7,500 fully secured bond. This means Brown either has to put up $7,500 cash, $15,000 worth of property, or a combination of the two in order to be released from custody.
Price also appointed the public advocate’s office to present Brown and scheduled a Nov. 23 preliminary hearing in the case.
Brown was previously convicted of manufacturing meth and served some prison time, noted Williamsburg Public Affairs Officer Shawn Jackson.
Williamsburg Police Detective Bobby Freeman is assisting with the investigation.
