W’burg man arrested after motorcycle chase

A Williamsburg man is behind bars facing over half a dozen charges after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase Monday evening on a motorcycle.

About 9 p.m., Williamsburg Police Sgt. Brandon White attempted to stop a speeding 1998 Suzuki motorcycle, which was traveling north on US25W.

White clocked the vehicle traveling at 70 mph in a 35-mph zone, according to an arrest citation.

The driver then “accelerated to high speeds” and continued north on US25W crossing into the opposite lane of travel at times, according to a Williamsburg Police Department release.

The motorcycle almost caused a collision with a truck near the post office entrance, White wrote on an arrest citation.

The motorcycle nearly struck a police car, which was driven by Chief Wayne Bird, at the intersection of Rains Streets and US25W before continuing on US25W at a high rate of speed, the release and citation stated.

“The driver then proceeded onto KY 26 traveling in the opposite lane when he was forced to stop near the Wofford Pay Lake and was arrested without incident,” the release stated.

The pursuit lasted nearly three miles, according to an arrest citation.

White charged James Randall Goins Jr., 29, with first-degree fleeing or evading police, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, second-offense driving while under the influence, reckless driving, third-degree possession of a controlled substance, driving on a suspended license and speeding.

He was lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center about 11:52 p.m.

Goins refused to take a Breathalyzer test, according to his arrest citation.

When deputy jailers searched him, they allegedly discovered 25 sealed and one open Suboxone pack in Goins underwear, an arrest citation stated.

Goins is being held in the detention center in lieu of a $25,000 cash bond, according to the detention center’s website.

K-9 Officer Elijah Hunter and Bird assisted with the investigation.
