W’burg man arrested after vehicle pursuit, foot chase

A Williamsburg man pleaded not guilty Thursday afternoon to charges related to a recent vehicle chase and foot pursuit.

Cody Mullis is accused of fleeing or evading police.

Cody Mullis, 28, pleaded not guilty to charges of failure to wear seatbelts, speeding 26 mph over limit, first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), second-degree fleeing or evading police (on foot), resisting arrest, first-degree disorderly conduct, second-degree wanton endangerment, reckless driving, license not in possession, failure to wear seatbelts, and failure to or improper signal during his arraignment Thursday afternoon in Whitley District Court.

Judge Fred White appointed the public advocate’s office to represent Mullis, scheduled a Dec. 27 preliminary hearing and set a $5,000 cash bond.

Williamsburg Police Officer Greg Rhoades arrested Mullis about 1:01 p.m. on Dec. 18 near Louden Road.

Rhoades observed Mullis not wearing a seatbelt while he was driving a 1997 white Chevy near the intersection of Highway 92E and Louden Road, according to an arrest citation.

Rhoades followed the vehicle, which drove at speeds of 65 mph. After Rhoades activated his lights and siren, Mullis wouldn’t stop, drove over a hill at 1387 Louden Road and fled on foot, Rhoades wrote on an arrest citation.

K-9 Officer Elijah Hunter and his K-9 partner Vicko responded to the scene and tracked Mullis down in a wooded area, but Mullis would not comply with an officer’s commands and was Tasered, Rhoades wrote.

In addition, Mullis had two active warrants for his arrest for failing to appear in court, according to the citation.

Mullis was lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.
