W’burg man allegedly assaults his girlfriend with a baseball bat

A Williamsburg man is behind bars in the Whitley County Detention Center in lieu of a $10,000 cash bond after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend with a baseball bat.

Joseph Caddell is facing a second-degree assault charge.

On July 5, Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputy Chad Foley arrested Joseph S. Caddell, 43, of Ellison Bend Road, about 6:32 p.m., and charged him with second-degree assault-domestic violence and public intoxication controlled substance excludes alcohol.

Foley and Deputy Mike Lawson were dispatched to 175 Ellison Bend Road in reference to a physical domestic dispute, Foley wrote on an arrest citation.

When Foley arrived at the scene, Caddell had visible scratch marks on his stomach and neck, and Caddell informed the officer that he and his girlfriend had been in an argument, a citation stated.

Lawson made contact with Caddell’s girlfriend, who had a visible pump knot on top of her forehead. She told Lawson that Caddell allegedly became angry with her for no reason and struck her in the head and back with a baseball bat, Foley wrote.

The victim went to Baptist Health Corbin for evaluation and medical attention, and Lawson took her to a safe haven, according to a sheriff’s department release.

Whitley District Judge Fred White entered a not guilty plea for Caddell during his arraignment Monday afternoon. White appointed the public advocate’s office to represent Caddell, and scheduled a July 15 preliminary hearing in his case.
