Waterline breaks near W’burg’s library

A water line leak caused the closure of the Whitley County Public Library Tuesday and has affected numerous homes and business in Williamsburg.

Library officials discovered the water leak about 7:30 a.m. with water coming out of the pavement in the parking lot, which is located at the rear of the building.

City water officials got the water shut off to the building about 11 a.m. and labored throughout the day to fix the leak, which they hoped to get repaired by Wednesday.

The leak resulted in low water pressure or no water pressure for several homes and businesses that stretch from the University of the Cumberlands to Second Street, including the home of Williamsburg Mayor Roddy Harrison, who had no water Tuesday.

“It is a good thing we are doing this for newspaper and not for TV,” said Harrison, who wasn’t able to take a shower Tuesday.

The library is expected to reopen again Wednesday provided the water situation is resolved.
