Wandering two-year-old leads to abuse charge for Lily woman
A Lily woman has been charged with criminal abuse after a social worker reportedly found her two-year-old child wandering around alone outside wearing nothing but a top Thursday morning.
Bailey Myrann Karr, 19 is facing one count of first-degree criminal abuse.
Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, said deputies were called to Richland Drive off of East Ky. 552 at approximately 11:50 a.m. after the social worker, who was in the area on an unrelated complaint, found the child.
“When deputies arrived at the scene they noted that the child’s hands were covered in paint and she had a severe bruise on her left eye,” Acciardo stated. “The child’s mother was found in a residence asleep and was allegedly unaware that the child had exited the residence.”
“She had very little to say,” Acciardo said when asked if Karr offered any explanation for how the child got outside.
Acciardo said that deputies found nothing to suspect drugs or alcohol were a factor.
Karr has been released on a $50,000 surety bond.
Karr appeared in Laurel District Court Tuesday for a preliminary hearing.
Judge John Chappell set the case has been set for a second preliminary hearing on July 24.
