VIDEO: State Police investigating suspicious series of late-night fires; arson suspected
A Kentucky State Police arson investigator has been asked to look into three weekend fires at empty or abandoned homes in the Campground, Gray and Lily communities.
About 3 a.m. Saturday, Campground and Lily firefighters were called Hopkins Cemetery Road to battle a fire at an abandoned trailer
Campground Chief Steve Bruner said the trailer had no power and no one was living there, making the fire suspicious. Firefighters were on scene for about 2 hours but were unable to save the trailer.
About 5:30 that night, Lily and Campground fire departments were called to a double-wide trailer on Roy McHargue Road.
"When we got there ist was fully engulfed," said Lt. Doug Jones of the Lily Fire Department. "It was a total loss."
Jones said like the other fires, the trailer had no power supplied to it.
About 4:30 a.m. Sunday, West Knox firefighters were called to a house fire on Ky. 830.
"It was about 2 miles north of Lynn Camp School," Chief Darrel Baker said.
Baker said no one was living at the house, which had been condemned because it was a former meth house.
Firefighters contained the blaze, but Baker said they let it burn.
"We don’t fight those fires because of the gasses that can be let off," Baker said of structures that have been condemned because of meth.
Baker added there was no power to the home. Firefighters were on the scene for about 2 hours.
Trooper Don Trosper, public affairs officer at Post 11 in London, said the arson investigator at post 11 will be conducting the investigation.
