UPDATEDx2: CFIT – Corbin loses to Jackson County in finals
UPDATEx2: Monday night’s CFIT championship game between the host Corbin Redhounds and the Jackson County Generals was a few different things. It was a rematch of the first game of the season for both teams, which the Redhounds won 75-73. It was also a potential preview of things to come in the Region 13 tournament. Most important for now, it was a chance for Corbin to reclaim the title of Cumberland Falls Invitational champs. Sadly for the Hounds though, it was not to be, as Jackson County got their revenge for that early season loss, winning the 2013 CFIT in the process by a score of 59-47.
Both teams had some trouble getting shots to fall, but the Generals were able to gain an early edge by winning the rebounding battle. At the end of the first quarter they led 16-9. A back-and-forth second quarter ended with Jackson County taking a 23-17 lead into the locker room.
Corbin rallied in the third behind eighth grader Andrew Taylor, who scored 10 points. The Hounds only trailed by two heading into the fourth quarter, 33-31. Foul trouble doomed the team down the stretch, however, as the Generals scored 14 of their final 26 points from the stripe. Despite a spirited effort, Corbin trailed the entire way, and had to settle for tournament runners-up after losing 59-47.
Jackson County 59, Corbin 47
Jackson Co – 16 7 10 26 – 59
Corbin – 9 8 14 16 – 47
