UPDATED: Victims of head-on crash Monday recovering; witness says speed likely a factor

A Gray man is in stable condition and a Corbin man has been discharged from the University of Tennessee Medical Center following a head-on collision on U.S. 25 Monday morning.
Justin Adams, 19, of Gray and Clyde Hamilton, 42, of Corbin were both airlifted from the scene of the wreck just north of the intersection of U.S. 25E and 25W.
Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies said the wreck occurred about 8 a.m. when Adams, who was traveling south in a BMW 330i, crossed the centerline and struck Hamilton’s Chevrolet Avalanche.
"He passed us on the hill near Hunter Hills (Elementary)," a witness said of Adams. "We were doing about 50 mph and he just blew by us. He had to be doing 70."
The Laurel County Rescue Squad and West Knox Fire department were both called to the scene. They used the Jaws-of-Life to cut the roof off of the BMW in order to extricate Adams. No one else was in either vehicle.
Traffic in both directions was halted while firefighters and emergency personnel worked to clear the scene.
Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, said deputies are continuing to investigate, but there is nothing to suspect drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
"From what we have been told, he had just gotten off of work at Aisin," Acciardo said.

Heather, Heather, Heather, take a chill pill and then run right to your bathroom and wash your mouth out with soap! By the way, how do you know he wasn’t speeding? Huh?
A 19 year old male speeding, no way! I’m glad both are alive but kids have no respect for any rules, especially in this area and he was traveling 70 or better because he ran me off the road. Obviously you are young because you are incapable of using words to express yourself, instead resorting to cussing. Hopefully, he and his friends will learn from this situation but the only thing they will learn is that I can survive anything.
btw, there is no such thing as an accident, the young man clearly was at fault and his actions caused the wreck and he should be prosecuted for attempted manslaughter, if there is any justice
U need to shut your ****ing mouth that was my little cousin in that car he is lucky to be Alive and yea he did have his seat belt on and it was accident he wasn’t driving fast until u know something that is right just shut the **** up and take your dumb stupid ass back to Ohio u dumb ****ing bitch
You can’t even tell what kind of vehicle that is! Why do people here drive so fast? I bet they didn’t have their seatbelts on, either. As a former Ohio resident, I’m used to reading about drive-by shootings where I used to live. Down here, they don’t shoot at each other, they just drive their vehicles head-on into others.
