Alcohol and drug involvement were a factor in a late Sunday evening stabbing in the Canadatown area where a Williamsburg woman allegedly stabbed her brother and a man, whom she was dating.
Both suffered life-threatening injuries but were in stable condition Monday afternoon. Police still don’t have a motive for the shooting, said Kentucky State Police Trooper Don Trosper, public affairs officer at the London post.
Teresa G. Sharp, 44, of 90 Petrey Lane, pleaded not guilty to two charges of first-degree assault, alcohol intoxication and terroristic threatening during her video arraignment Monday morning in Whitley District Court from the Whitley County Detention Center.
The terroristic threatening charge stems from Sharp allegedly threatening to kill officers at the scene of the stabbing.
"Based on the nature of these charges, I find you are a risk to the public," District Judge Cathy Prewitt noted when addressing the issue of bond, which was set at $250,000 cash.
If Sharp is able to post bond, she will be also required to wear a GPS ankle-monitoring device.
Sharp said little during Monday’s hearing except that she couldn’t afford an attorney when asked by Prewitt whether she was going to hire one.
Prewitt appointed the public advocate’s office to represent Sharp after she said that she didn’t own any land and that her income was less than $1,000 per month.
Prewitt scheduled a preliminary hearing for Sept. 5.
About 9:41 p.m. Sunday, Kentucky State Police were notified about two stabbings, which took place at 2304 White Oak Road in the Canadatown area.
Randy Sulfridge called Whitley County 911 to report that he had been stabbed by a woman named Teresa, Trooper Tony Dingess wrote on an arrest citation.
When Dingess arrived at the residence, he found Sulfridge sitting on the front porch holding a phone and bleeding profusely from multiple stab wounds. He then found David Bennett lying in the floor with a stab wound to his stomach area, according to arrest citations.
"Both victims stated the accused had stabbed them and had fled the scene," Dingess wrote.
Dingess continued searching the residence for the perpetrator and observed multiple blood spatter patterns on the floors.
He then found Sharp lying on the ground in the yard area outside the residence. She had no visible injuries but had blood on her clothing and her person and a strong smell of alcoholic beverage, Dingess wrote.
She was unsteady on her feet and unable to perform field sobriety tests.
Sharp was "manifestly under the influence of alcoholic beverages and a danger to herself and others," according to an arrest citation.
"The accused threatened to kill officers while on scene and also made a hand jester in the shape of a gun pointing at officers," Dingess wrote.
Both victims were airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville for treatment of their injuries.
Trosper said that one of the two victims was Sharp’s brother and the other is a man, who she had been dating, but he didn’t know which was which.
Dingess is in charge of the investigation and was assisted at the scene by the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department, the Williamsburg Police Department and Whitley County EMS.

I told Sam to run a full Toxicology screen on this broad because she is probably full of percocet or meth. I hope the District Attorney will prosecute her to the fullest and send her to prison for a long stretch. And put her on some kind of rehab.
Just what society needs another doped up welfare bum!
