UPDATED: Man found dead in flooded area Monday identified; police say alcohol use suspected
Kentucky State Police and the Whitley County Coroner’s office are currently conducting a death investigation after a local man was found dead Monday morning along Poplar Creek Road.
Kentucky State Police are now identifying the man as 61-year-old Lowell M. Mullins, of Williamsburg.
The Kentucky State Police 9-1-1- dispatch at Post 11 in London received a call reporting the finding of a the man’s body around 8:30 a.m. Monday on Poplar Creek School Road about seven miles west of Siler. When KSP Trooper Mike Witt arrived at the scene it was determined that the 1986 Oldsmobile car Mullins was driving, at an unknown time during the night, entered a flooded area on the road and became disabled then left the roadway.
Mullins was found outside the vehicle in about two feet of water and was pronounced dead at the scene by Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley.
Alcohol usage is suspected and an autopsy will be scheduled to determine a cause of death
Witt is continuing an investigation into the case.
