UPDATED: Man accused of DUI crash that injured family now on home incarceration

A Corbin man who, police say ran a stoplight and slammed his vehicle into another Friday evening, injuring a local family, had a blood-alcohol content over four times the legal limit at the time of the crash, but today is out of jail on home incarceration after an arraignment hearing in Whitley District Court Tuesday.
David L. Brimm, 30, of Corbin, was charged with DUI (first offense), reckless driving, license to be in possession and for driving with no insurance following an investigation into the accident. Police have additionally charged Brimm with two counts of second-degree assault for injuries suffered by those in the vehicle he hit. Initially held in jail on a $25,000 cash bond after his arrest, Whitley District Judge Cathy Prewitt adjusted the bond to $30,000 in property. Brimm is out of jail an is on home incarceration with the exceptions he may go out for work, church, visits to the doctor and to appear in court.
According to Corbin Police, Brimm ran a red light at the intersection of Cumberland Falls Hwy. and I-75 Exit 25 Friday night, and rear-ended a vehicle occupied by 20-year-old Dustin Roberts, of Williamsburg, his wife and two-month-old child. The family was transported by ambulance to Baptist Regional Medical Center where they were treated and released for their injuries. The infant was reportedly not breathing shortly after the accident happened but ended up being OK.
Patrolman Jeff Hill was the first officer to arrive on scene and he reported that Brimm had a smell of alcohol on him, slow slurred speech and was very unsteady on his feet. Police say he failed all field sobriety tests given to him at the scene.
"He didn’t really say too much. He was kind of out of it," Hill said. "He said he had been to every bar in Corbin."
Police say Brimm had just left Applebees and was heading south on Cumberland Falls Hwy. when the accident occurred.
According to a citation provided by Corbin Police, Brimm blew a .335 blood-alcohol result on an Intoxilizer test following the accident. The legal blood-alcohol limit in Kentucky is .08.
Authorities also say they discovered 17 open beer cans in the front floorboard of his vehicle.

Bronson probably was just as wasted
Wonder why the judge didnt issue a stiffer bond instead of making it so light that he is out to drink and drive again. The judicial system has to be held accountable to.
Bronson Fugate is not a State Trooper or involved in law enforcement any longer. He was helping the guy out and took his keys.
I know the family and Bronson, they are good people.
God was watching out for all invovled in the crash!!!!!
Home incarceration !! What a joke. He needs to stay in jail. He is very lucky he did not kill anyone.
Kathy Prewitt was the judge who reduced the bail. Is she not up for election soon?
I can not believe that they would reuce his bail, and let this guy out. Until our court system stops acting like this is a joke the situation in our county will never get better.
I saw this guy a couple weeks ago at Applebees and he was so polluted he was passing out on the bar. Bronson Fugate, who he was with was kind enough to take him outside and throw him in the back of his truck and then come back in and finish his beer; you gotta love those state police boys. I hear he is usually on more than just a beer high. You know he works at CSX and this totally typical of the work force we got over there these days. You give a partier a high paying job and this is what you get; gee I thought they drugged test those boys ever now and then.
I’m really glad that no one was seriously injured.
Come on people, since no one was hurt (thank god), give the guy a break…if he is a real kentucky hillbilly, he probably did like alot of other ky hillbillies and sat in the driveway for hours listening to hank jr. while drinking, and then decided that it was time for a few more. LOL
It has nothing to do with having a wet county or gambling. We had DUI’s before they allowed alcohol by the drink. I’m not in any way defending him for what he did but you can’t blame the fact that the county is wet. He had beer cans in his car which is not sold in Corbin so it has nothing to do with the city’s alchol sales.
I cannot believe anyone would even attemp to drive when they have had that many beers.
This is what happens with you have a county that is wet and gambling in it. That is one of the reason we moved back to Corbin thought we would never see our county wet, but boy were we fooled.
Drinking causes lots of little children to go hungry and without love.
this is unreal. I don’t know how he could stand up let alone find his car. 17 beers is a lot for anybody. He needs to be held accountable. Not a smack on the wrist. He’s probably already out of jail and got his ‘fridge restocked.
UNREAL!!!!!!!!
17 open cans of beer in the car! If this guy drank all those at one time he is a one man party!!!!!!
What an idiot. Drinking and drivind is serious. What would make anyone think that driving after drinking 17 beers is ok. I drink, but no matter how much I drink I am responsible not to get behind the wheel of a car. I think that the fines and punishment should be alot stiffer than what they are now. Maybe this would help people make better decisions in their life.
