UPDATED: Barbourville man dies from injuries suffered in early-morning Corbin crash

A Barbourville man has died from injuries he suffered in a two-vehicle collision on US 25E in Corbin early Friday morning.
Anthony Scott, 77, was airlifted from the scene of the accident Friday morning and taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville with life-threatening injuries. He was later pronounced dead by the Tennessee State Medical Examiner’s Office. His passenger, Linda Scott, 60, was admitted to Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin with serious injuries.
The couple was hurt after their Chrysler PT Cruiser was broadsided by a tractor-trailer truck on U.S. 25E and plowed through the front of Wendy’s restaurant.
Police say Anthony Scott was driving the vehicle. The accident happened about 6:30 a.m. Friday.
Wilson said based on interviews with witnesses, Anthony Scott was pulling out onto 25E from South Ky. 1629 when tractor-trailer driven by Shawn Hacker, 43, of Ohio, approached the intersection as he was traveling south on 25E.
"We don’t know if Scott was trying to turn left or right, but the truck had the light," Corbin Police Officer Coy Wilson said.
The truck, owned by M&M Express out of Fairfield, Ohio and hauling a trailer with a load of food bound for McDonald’s, hit the left side of the PT Cruiser.
Wilson said it is unknown whether the accelerator became stuck, or Scott was unable to take his foot off of it, but the PT Cruiser was turned by the collision and continued down the road before it went through the grass on the shoulder, crossed an access road and came to a stop inside the restaurant.
Only one employee was inside the store at the time and she was not injured.
Corbin Firefighters had to cut the door off of the PT Cruiser to extricate Anthony Scott from the vehicle.
A landing zone was established on 25E near Wendy’s and the Scotts were airlifted.
Wilson said Hacker was not injured.
Wilson added that Linda Scott is being treated at BRMC for a broken pelvis and other injuries.
