UPDATED: Artemus man arrested for ramming car into Corbin market
An Artemus man was arrested Thursday after police say he hit a Corbin store with his vehicle, then drove away.
Ralph Edward Turner, 44, was stopped a short time after the accident on the Corbin Bypass (KY 3041) Thursday afternoon. He was driving a silver Chrysler that witnesses say rammed into 2 Dawgs Market, located on 18th Street, causing damage to the building.
"He just hit the gas and went right into the building and kept his foot on it," said Corbin Police Officer Glenn Taylor Jr. "He finally realized what was going on, and backed up and took off."
Once stopped, Corbin Police gave Turner field sobriety tests which he failed. Officers also notice drug paraphernalia items in plain site inside the vehicle.
"He was just going in and out of making sense," Taylor said. "He was high on something."
Taylor’s K-9 dog, Shep, gave "active alerts" on the vehicle for the presence of drugs. After a search, officers found oxycontin pills and a "large amount of money" in the vehicle. Authorities would not say how much money was recovered other than it was significant. Taylor said police are almost positive Turner was selling drugs.
Turner was charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, possession of a controlled substance first-degree and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was lodged in the Knox County Jail.
Taylor is continuing an investigation into the case. Capt. David Maiden, Sgt. Bill Rose, Sgt. Jason Moore and Cpl. Rob Hodge are assisted in the investigation.
