UPDATE: Whitley Deputy Jailer arrested for drunk driving
A Whitley County Deputy Jailer is facing a drunk driving charge after being arrested late Sunday evening by the same officer, who also arrested him for DUI about six years ago.
Williamsburg Police Officer Brandon White arrested Lloyd E. "Oscar" Davenport about 10:56 p.m., and charged him with careless driving and driving while under the influence, authorities said.
Davenport, a deputy jailer, has been employed at the Whitley County Detention Center since Sept. 4, 2008.
Whitley County Jailer Ken Mobley said that Davenport, who supervises work release inmates in the county’s litter abatement program, will be allowed to continue working, but that he won’t be allowed to drive jail vehicles until the case is resolved.
Mobley said that he would take a "wait and see" approach as to what happens with the case, but that he anticipates Davenport will be able to keep his job.
The arrest took place near the intersection of Main Street and Beck’s Creek Road after Davenport, 59, was pulled over for allegedly weaving.
Davenport allegedly crossed the centerline four times between Wal-Mart and Main Street, and twice from Main Street to Becks Creek Road, White wrote on the arrest citation.
After stopping the 2003 red Toyota, White allegedly smelled the odor of alcohol on Davenport, who failed field sobriety tests, according to the arrest citation.
Davenport allegedly refused to submit to a portable breath test, and told police that he would blow over the limit if he took it and that he had drunk a few beers, according to the arrest citation.
Davenport also allegedly told White that White would "get what was coming to" him, White wrote.
"He said he would pay a visit to my father – I felt this was a threat," White further wrote on the arrest citation.
Davenport was lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.
He was booked into the jail at 12:23 a.m. Monday, and released on bond at 12:57 a.m., Mobley said.
Because Davenport works at the jail, he was placed in an isolation cell during his detainment, Mobley said.
Davenport is scheduled to be arraigned May 24 in Whitley District Court. He was released on a $2,500 surety bond posted by Jim Davenport, according to court records.
Williamsburg Police Officer Jim Pool, and Kentucky State Police Troopers Scott Bunch and Duane Foley assisted with the investigation.
This was apparently the second time that White has arrested Davenport for driving while under the influence.
On Dec. 23, 2004, White arrested Davenport for driving while under the influence and felony fleeing or evading police in Knox County. On Jan. 4, 2005, the fleeing or evading police charge was amended down to a misdemeanor offense and dismissed.
Davenport pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence, and was sentenced to a 90-day probated jail sentence, had his license suspended for 60 days, and paid $660.50 in fines and court costs, according to court records.
A News Journal analysis of court records shows that Davenport was arrested for alcohol intoxication in Williamsburg in 2001, and paid $121.60 in fines and court costs. Kentucky State Police arrested him for alcohol intoxication in 2005 in Laurel County, and he paid a fine on the charge before going to court, court records show.

OMG! There really IS a God! In the form of Brandon White! You go Brandon! It is high time the Davenports got their just desserts! They have gotten by with way too much in that town. Maybe now the golf course in Williamsburg can be a more decent place to play golf without the indecency of the great and oh so mighty wonderful (spoken with sarcasm) Davenports corrupting it. Unfortunately I have known the Davenports for many years and I can say that I have not met one yet that wasn’t a drunk.
OMG, all of you must be related to Lawrence Hodge. You have his mentality.
John wanna be Holmes-you are stupid Brandon White is like 1 of the best police officers to reach this small town,Denise-I agree with ShangChi.You are truely a FIRST CLASS IDIOT ! Maybe you just need to go back to school and learn a few things. You know like umm that DRINKING AND DRIVING KILLS PEOPLE. I bet you wouldn’t be saying nothing about Brandon, nothing at all if Oscar or someone else was drinking and driving and ended up wrecking and killing say like your mother or father or child or YOU!!!! SO GO BACK TO SCHOOL AND LEARN SOMETHING AND THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK IDIOT !!!!
BENJII UR RIGHT MOBLEY NEEDS TO GO BUT I BELIEVE THINGS WILL CHANGE WITH THE NEW SHERIFF
WPD STILLS HAS ONE BAD APPLE…………SHAWN JACKSON..HES A SISSY AND SMART MOUTH FOR NO REASON BIRD NEEDS TO SHIP HIM OUT HE SHOULD BE WORKIN AT IGA OR WALMART OR SOMEWHERE NO ONE FROM THA VILLE TO THA BURG LIKES HIM!
WOW…In jail for 34 mins. and a repeat offender at that. I want to get a job there so I can break the law with only minimum jail time. I miss the good ol’ days when your word meant something. FAIR!.phhhffffffffffft
Oscar Davenport isn’t the only one that works for the Whitley County jail that the law doesn’t apply to. Deputy jailer Sandra Hoke was arrested for DUI some time back, you’d have to check records to see when, and the following day she was bragging to her so called drinking buddies at the VFW that she only had to sit in the office, and that her husband got to sit in there with her. Talk about a slap on the hand! I guess if you work for Ken Mobley, you can do anything you want in Whitley County and not have to pay the penalties that everyone else does. Must be nice.
Mobley….Davenport has been arrested for DUI. He is acting in a way as an officer of the law. HOW on earth and why on earth would you keep him as an employee?????
John Holmes-Whats Brandons job with the PD have to do with the Drunk he arrested?
Denise-You’re an idiot of the first class. Have you seen what drunk drivers do to families including their own? Obviously not. The small town PD’s are always a topic for corruption. Wburg has weeded out the corrupt ones, Shelly, Boyd, Nighbert.
Now the PD is very commendable.
My God don’t you people realize this man has a problem with alcohol, it seems like after 4 arrests with the booze problem he would have to seek treatment. And of course with his record he fits right in with the Jail staff, there is an individual that works there with a felony record. Wake up Mobley, these people are ruining your record.
Umm…why does someone who has been caught driving drunk 4 times now still allowed to drive a car!!!!!??????? Ohh ya because he was someones buddy…. what a joke this is…anyone else would be behind bars and have lost their license for a few years not just a few days. Denise : you’re and idiot…how can u harass someone who is driving drunk?? Wait till you lose someone to a stupid drunk driver…then you will change your tune. GET THIS LOSER OFF THE ROADS!!!!!! what the heck is wrong with this state…???? Take this guys license and DONT give it back!!!!
I think Officer White is harrassing Mr Davenport. I’m not making excuses for Oscar, but ALL of the Williamsburg Police Department is corrupt. The feds need to clean up the police departments so Williamsburg can be back to normal.
I am a little upset that Oscar has been caught too many times drinking and driving. If it was a normal citizen doing that stuff we would get jail time and lose our license for good and more than likely lose our job. Scares me that if he keeps getting off and doesn’t seem to think it is wrong he will end up killing someone while on one his little drunken drives. He should no so much better than that! I don’t understand why is isn’t being asked to go into AA or some sort of rehab -it appears he has been drinking for a really long time.
Thats what I am saying John! Brandon is a weasel!
Bravo to Brandon,
THe Davenports aren’t above the law, they may think they are. But it looks like “Big O” has finally answered for his drunkeness. I remember him riding down main street during the Nibroc parade on one wheel. He would ride a wheelie for a mile and was the thrill of the crowd.
Brandon is a good officer, he is not corrupt and is fast becoming a respected member of the WPD.
Did Williamsburg City Police really hire Brandon White!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
