Two Corbin men are among three individuals arrested in connection with a shooting in northern Laurel County on March 2 that occurred during an attempted robbery.
Twenty-four-year-old Kaleb McKiddy and 20-year-old Kyle Wilson and Ricky Eddie Eversole of Somerset have each been charged with attempted murder. In addition, McKiddy and Eversole have been charged with first-degree robbery stemming from the home invasion on Hazel Patch Road.
Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, said McKiddy was arrested at his residence on Byrley Road in southern Laurel County late Wednesday night.
“He was given up by his accomplice in the robbery,” said Acciardo, noting investigators learned McKiddy’s identity when they arrested Eversole earlier Wednesday at a residence on Carter Road in London.
Based on further investigation, Acciardo said deputies determined that Wilson had in his possession the handgun used in the robbery. Deputies went to Wilson’s residence, also on Byrley Road Thursday afternoon and took him into custody.
Wilson also faces charges of tampering with physical evidence and giving and officer a false name.
Acciardo said deputies are still trying to recover the weapon.
Deputies have impounded a Honda Civic found at McKiddy’s residence that is believed to be the vehicle used in the robbery.
According to Sheriff John Root, deputies were called to the scene on Hazel Patch Road about nine miles north of London about 8:10 p.m. that evening in response to a complaint that two individuals had been shot.
Forty-seven-year-old Pamela Newcomb of East Bernstadt was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment of a gunshot wound to the stomach.
The robbers fled the scene before deputies arrived.
Acciardo said Eversole arrived at Somerset Hospital later that night seeking treatment for gunshot wound to the shoulder.
Eversole was later airlifted to UK.
Through the course of the investigation, detectives determined that McKiddy and Eversole had gone to the Newcomb’s home that night with the intention of robbing them. “There was a scuffle that took place in the living room and Newcomb’s husband shot Eversole and McKiddy shot Newcomb in the stomach,” Acciardo said, noting Pamela Newcomb remains in critical condition at UK.
It is still unknown why that residence was targeted.
Acciardo said Newcomb will not face charges for shooting Eversole.
“He was a homeowner trying to defend his home,” Acciardo said.
