UPDATE: State police searching for black truck involved in hit-and-run with Whitley EMS ambulance
Kentucky State Police are searching for the driver of a pickup truck involved in a hit-and-run incident with a Whitley County EMS ambulance Monday afternoon.
Officials with Whitley EMS said the wreck occurred about 12:20 p.m. on U.S. 25W south of the interesection with Fifth Street Road.
Kentucky State Police Trooper Lloyd Cochran, public affairs officer at Post 11 in London, said the ambulance was travelling north on U.S. 25W when the black pickup truck crossed the centerline and sideswiped the ambulance before continuing south.
"They weren’t able to get a make or model or tag number off the truck," Cochran said of the ambulance crew.
The ambulance was carrying a patient, but officials said neither the patient, nor either of the two crew memebers were were injuried.
The ambulance suffered minor damage to the driver’s side mirror and window, but was driven from the scene.
Whitley County Sheriff’s deputies were intially called to the scene to investigate.
However, because the ambulance is a county vehicle, the investigation has been turned over to Kentucky State Police.
