UPDATE: Man who fled district court in attorney’s truck Tuesday captured in Tennessee Friday
UPDATE: A Williamsburg man who allegedly fled from district court in Corbin in an attorney’s truck last week is in custody in Tennessee.
Thirty-year-old Johnny Mullis reportedly told a bystander in Caryville, Tenn. that he was wanted out of Kentucky and was going to hit the bars.
Campbell County Sheriff’s deputies were contacted and took Mullis into custody without incident.
Corbin Police Colonel David Maiden, who has been investigating the case, said Mullis was not armed. The two handguns that were reportedly in the truck when it was taken, have not been found.
However, both the truck and the Toyota that Mullis allegedly took from his ex-girlfriend were both recovered.
“The golf clubs (attorney John) Reynolds had left in the truck were still in there,” Maiden said.
A Campbell County judge will determine whether or not to extradite Mullis back to Whitley County. No date for that hearing has been set.
UPDATE: Police said Thursday that 30-year-old Johnny Mullis Jr. has stolen his ex girfriend’s car and has been seen in the Mudcreek area of Whitley County.
Williamsburg Police Chief Wayne Bird said the white late 1980’s or early 90’s four-door Toyota was reported stolen Tuesday night.
A witness from Mudcreek told dispatchers that Mullis appeared to be extremely under the influence of drugs.
In addition, the caller reported that Mullis was armed and stated that he was going to kill people.
Corbin Police Colonel David Maiden, who is investigating the original theft Tuesday, said law enforcement has yet to find the pickup truck.
Maiden identified the handguns in the truck as a Glock .40 caliber and a Glock 9 millimeter.
Law enforcement has been all over Mudcreek and Highway 92 and there was no sign of him,” Maiden said.

Corbin Police are asking for the public’s help to find a man who fled from district court in an attorney’s pickup truck Tuesday.
Corbin Police Major Rob Jones, the department’s public affairs officer, said the suspect has been identified as 30-year-old Johnny Mullis Jr. of Williamsburg.
Mullis reportedly came to Whitley District Court Tuesday afternoon for a preliminary hearing on one count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle stemming from his arrest on July 24.
Mullis was released from the Whitley County Detention Center Monday after a $1,000 cash bond was posted.
Jones said Mullis went to the courtroom but left before his case was called.
Video surveillance of the area showed Mullis getting into the truck, which was parked next to his own car and driving away.
Jones said the truck belongs to attorney John Reynolds and that there were two guns inside the truck at the time.
“He left the keys in the ignition and the windows rolled down and Mullis took the truck,” Jones said.
Jones said the pickup truck is gray in color and has a John Deere license plate.
When Mullis arrived for court he had a female with him whom Jones said also had a court date.
“He left her there,” Jones said.
