University of the Cumberlands students win awards
The University of the Cumberlands (UC) recently presented separate awards to a graduating senior and a junior.

Madalyn Sutton
Madalyn Sutton is the recipient of the 2023 Mary Mildred Sullivan Award bestowed by UC. This award honors a female student from the senior class who has made significant contributions to university life while demonstrating outstanding spiritual values.
Sutton is from Williamsburg, and was a double major in accounting and business administration.
At Cumberlands, she served as vice president of the Business Club and was a member of Sigma Beta Delta and Sigma Tau Delta.
Sutton has faithfully served her local community as a pianist and a member of the choir at her local church, Goldbug Missionary Baptist Church of Williamsburg. At the church, she also taught the Sunday School class for middle schoolers.
In addition, Sutton has served as a volunteer for Baptist Health of Corbin assisting hospital staff and administration with the onboarding of other volunteers. She currently serves Baptist Health as a volunteer, providing patient care support for clinical healthcare providers.
Her future plans include working in tax accounting at FWK & Associates in Lexington. She will begin the MBA Program at Cumberlands and seek her CPA licensure.
Ultimately, she wants to continue to serve by providing financial literacy opportunities and teaching others about Christ, both at home and abroad.
Siler award
is the 2023 recipient of the A.T. Siler Memorial Service Award bestowed by UC. This award is presented to a female student in their junior year of study who is expected to make an outstanding contribution to her community in the future.
Ngarhasta is a junior from Arusha, Tanzania. She is a political science and government major with a minor in business administration.
At Cumberlands, she has served as an orientation leader, resident assistant, vice president of the Diversity Leadership Club, Director of Diversity in the Student Government Association, and a team member of the Office of Campus Ministries.
Ngarhasta’s future plans include working with the United Nations while seeking to make long-term differences in the world through her knowledge and skills gleaned from her political science, government, and business courses, in addition to her life experiences.
