University of Kentucky President to speak Thursday to Corbin Rotary Club

University of Kentucky President Dr. Eli Capilouto will be visiting Corbin Thursday and speaking to the Corbin Rotary Club during its weekly meeting.
Corbin Rotary Club President Vonda Moore said the club is excited about Capilouto’s visit.
He was apparently planning to be in the Southeastern Kentucky area that day, and Thursday’s program host, J. Bill Sosh, reached out to Capilouto, who was receptive to coming and speaking to the rotary club, Moore noted.
"It is my understanding that he is just going to be talking about U.K. in general and I believe some initiatives that they have underway," Moore said.
The meeting will be held at David’s Steakhouse in Corbin at noon Thursday.
Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP Moore at 524-5523.
Capilouto became the 12th University of Kentucky President on July 1, 2011, replacing Dr. Lee Todd Jr., who resigned after 10 years.
A native of Montgomery, Alabama, Capilouto previously served as Provost of the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) and Dean of the UAB School of Public Health – a period of remarkable growth and transformation at one of the leading academic and health sciences institutions in the South.
Since his arrival, Capilouto has intently engaged with university and community stakeholders to renew the university’s founding mission and vision as a public, flagship, land grant and research university, according to bio on the university’s website.
Capilouto holds several undergraduate and graduate degrees from schools within the University of Alabama system, and a Doctorate in Health Policy and Management from Harvard University. He and his wife, Dr. Mary Lynne Capilouto (D.M.D.) a former Dean of the UAB School of Dentistry, have one daughter.
