UNION-BOUND

 Union College has nabbed another local athlete. After visiting several schools, Kelci Jones has decided to stay close to home and play for Coach Tim Curry and the Lady Bulldogs.

“I went to a couple of the workouts and got along with the girls and really liked the coaches,” Jones said. “It’s really close to home and that is something I was looking for. I get to play basketball and stay close to my family and everyone. I thought it was a good choice.”

Jones said that she wants to stay in shape and get prepared for the coming season. “Since high school season I really have not done anything, so I will have to begin working on getting stronger and faster.”

Corbin Coach Jennifer Parsons said. “I am really excited about Kelci getting to further her career collegiately, but more importantly she is going to be close and that was important to her.

“Her family has been a big part of her career here and supporting our team, so I am glad she is going to be close enough where they can watch her and that we can go watch her and be a part of her career.”

“I think Coach Curry does a great job at Union, they have had some outstanding teams since he has been there,” said Parsons.

“She is the type player that can grow in her game,” Parsons said. “She has not peaked what-so-ever, I think she will continue to improve.”

Anytime you see kids from the local area, you want to keep them home if at all possible,” said Union College Coach Tim Curry. “We’ve been looking for post players and obviously Kelci has a background as a post-player. We are looking forward to her development as she comes into our program.”

“We graduated five seniors that had a big impact on our program, so Kelci will be competing with other freshmen for the post spot right now,” said Curry. “We only have one returning post player who has been sick and injured for the majority of her first two years.”
“Basically, it will be new kids battling for the job in the post,” said Curry, whose team made it the conference championship and posted a 22-10 record.
