Two men arrested for meth lab in Corbin apartment complex

For the second time in as many days, local authorities made a meth-related arrest in the Tri-County area.

According to a press release from Corbin Police Department Public Affairs Officer Rob Jones, Samuel Johnson, 43 of London, and Joseph Taylor, 23 of Corbin were arrested Thursday and charged with manufacturing methamphetamine after police converged on a Corbin apartment complex.

According to the release, officers reportedly responded to the smell of a strong odor of ammonia coming from inside one of a residence located in building two of the Murrell Mitchell Apartment Complex (formerly Oak Place Apartments) on old Barbourville Hwy. in Corbin.

Officers were able to pin point the smell and received consent to search Apt. 47B. A search of the back room of the residence revealed a fully functional meth lab in production.

The apartment building was evacuated and members of the Kentucky State Police DESI (Drug Enforcement Special Investigations) team were contacted and performed the cleanup of the scene.

Johnson and Taylor were each arrested without further incident and placed in the Knox County Detention Center. Both are being held on a $25,000 cash bond at this time.

Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy Chad Gregory assisted at the scene, along with Corbin Police Officers Sgt. Glenn Taylor Jr., Cpl. Rick Baker and Cpl. Jim Miller.
