Two injured in Woodbine shooting; police seek suspect

Kentucky State Police are searching for 57-year-old James Bargo, who is accused of shooting Charity Carter and Harold Croley multiple times Tuesday afternoon in what police describe as a domestic dispute.

Police are seeking James Bargo, pictured above, in connection with the shooting.

According to Trooper First Class Walt Meachum, public affairs officer at Post 10 in Harlan, Carter, 30, of Woodbine and Croley, 60, of Corbin were parked in a wooded area off of Hedden Lane near the Knox/Whitley County line about 1 p.m., when Bargo walked up on their white Chevrolet Blazer and shot each of them multiple times.

Carter was able to make her way about one-half mile to the Hedden Lane where a passer-by saw her and called 911 about 1:45 p.m. Carter and Croley were airlifted from the scene to the University of Kentucky Medical Center

Carter’s cousin, Belinda Graves, said, despite what Bargo may have thought, Carter and Croley were just friends.
Graves added that Carter is alert and has been talking.

Kentucky State Police and Knox County Sheriff’s Deputies began combing the area for Bargo. In addition, calls went out to other police agencies to be looking for him.

"We know one or two places he is known to frequent and are checking those," Meachum said, adding the information about Bargo has been passed on to State Police Headquarters in Frankfort to be shared with troopers across the state.

Meachum added that Bargo’s identification indicates he lives in Dayton, Ohio. However, police do not know whether he has moved to the area or is just visiting.
