Two for the money!
In case you have been living under a rock the last few weeks, the football playoffs are creating some exciting times in the Tri-County with both Corbin and Whitley County still in the hunt for state titles.
Some people believe their quests will end this week, but I am not so sure I am ready to give up on either of them.
Both teams have excellent defenses and stellar running games, which I think are key components if you are chasing a title of any kind. The Colonels handled Letcher Central with ease this past week, while Corbin walked past Prestonsburg without a whole lot of resistance. What will this week bring for the two teams, I don’t know, but I am still trying to figure out a way to see both games, but I don’t think that is possible.
As a sports fan, I really want to see both teams go to the state finals, but as a guy that could potentially cover two teams in the state finals in Louisville, the idea is pretty exciting.
In reality, this may be the last chance some of the local fans will have to cheer on their respective schools on the gridiron this season, so I challenge each and every one of you to go out Friday night, get a buddy or two, find some old graduates and fill the stands at both of these stadiums until they have to turn people away.
Heck, sit on the visitor’s side of you have to, that will just leave less room for the outsiders. Whoever you are a fan of, go, cheer them on and experience one of the coolest events in high school sports, playoffs in Kentucky.
Good luck to both teams and I’ll probably see you on the sidelines!
